ITS A ROLL OVER 2011
The use of negative space is a popular topic in the world of design and the ‘It’s a roll over’ desk was a product I designed and manufactured to solve this problem. My initial sketches of ideas did not really fit in to my brief but it did spark the phrase ‘out of site out of mind’ which inspired me to design a hidden desk tidy. I had to research into timber lamination and different fixture, which was very interesting to learn. Making a full scale model helped me as the product depended a lot of user interaction so making sure it was perfectly manufactured was important. Using a large vacuum bag I formed layered plywood onto of a curved jig to create the rolling curve and different shelves and draws for essential desk stationary. Overall I think the hidden unit is very effective as the unit seems to appear from nowhere and gives an element of suprise.
